USA demanded 24 Russian diplomats to leave the country before September 3.
Xeberinvar.com -reports with reference to Ria novesti -The USA authorities have handed over to the Russian embassy a list of 24 diplomats who must leave the country by September 3 due to the expiration of visas. Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov told the National Interest magazine about it .
"Almost all of them will leave without replacement, because Washington has suddenly tightened visa procedures," he said; the text of the interview was published on the embassy's Facebook page .
Antonov noted that employees of Russian diplomatic missions in the United States are forced to work under conditions of unprecedented restrictions - despite statements by the American administration about the need to develop stable and predictable relations with Moscow.
According to him, the USA authorities, without explaining the reasons, are canceling the valid visas of the relatives of Russian diplomats and delaying the extension of entry permits.
"As a result, about sixty of my colleagues - 130 along with family members - cannot return to their homeland even under urgent humanitarian circumstances," the ambassador said.
At the same time, the State Department said that Antonov "described the situation inaccurately." The official representative of the department, Ned Price, noted that these diplomatic missions must either leave the country or apply for a visa extension - each request will be considered on an individual basis.
In recent years, the working conditions for Russian diplomats in the United States have steadily deteriorated. As Antonov noted, Moscow was completely deprived of its consular presence on the West Coast of America, where tens of thousands of Russians live. In addition, mass expulsions of Russian diplomats are regularly occurring. Washington has also dramatically tightened its visa procedures.
