Zakharova responded to the ECHR's request to allow same-sex marriage in Russia.
Xeberinvar.com - reports that- Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharov said that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) had issued a statement on the need to recognize same-sex marriage in Russia. In an article published in the Telegram, he challenged the court, citing the European Convention on Human Rights.
Zakharova noted that Article 12 of the convention, which regulates marriage, refers primarily to women and men. He went on to say that in his explanations published in 2020, he put forward the principle of monogamy and that sexual minorities were forgotten when it came to polygamy.
"In 2016, a Syrian citizen decided to apply for asylum in Sweden, to move his children and two wives there. "Sweden allowed Syrians and children to join the family reunification program, but, based on the above article, refused wives." He stressed that the Convention respects the national legislation of the countries in such cases and that the ECHR does not show such an attitude towards the Russian state.
On July 13, the ECHR required Russia to introduce a legal procedure for recognizing same-sex marriage. The court ruled that the union of same-sex couples should not be considered a marriage, but should be equated with couples of the opposite sex.
